The Laniakea to Pua’ena Point Swim is the 4th race of the Surf n Sea North Shore Swim Series. The North Shore Swim Series is a 5-race festival of progressively longer events giving swimmers the opportunity to swim the “7 mile miracle” of Oahu’s famous North Shore.

Event details and schedule

Check in & late registration is at Haleiwa Beach Park near the paddle out spot for Pua’ena Point on “Kahalewai Place” and starts at 7am.

There is no packet pickup, only race day check in and late sign up. Day of race entry fee is $70.00 (cash or check) and does not guarantee a t-shirt! There is no transfer of entries to another person with out permission of race committee officials.

We will shuttle swimmers to the start at Laniakea surf spot.

COURSE: The Laniakea to Pua’ena Point  Swim will feature a “mass” start in the water at west end of “Laniakea” surf spot fronting the sandy beach. Do not walk on the reef, as it is sharp & slippery. There will be 40” buoys along the route to help you navigate easily to Pua’ena Point. You can swim inside or outside of these buoys unless the surf is up in which case you must stay outside of these buoys. There will be an 8′ Orange Triangle Buoy marking the entrance to Pua’ena Point. Keep this on your Left Shoulder & follow the smaller buoys to the finish line. Finish is at the sandy beach where the surf schools paddle out. Two 40” buoys & a line of ‘water weenies’ (floats) will mark the finish line; please stay between these, as there are some areas with sharp reef.

EQUIPMENT: Goggles, facemasks & snorkels are permitted. Wetsuits prohibited. Swim suits for men may be briefs or jammers hip to knee. Women’s suits may be one or two-piece shoulder to hip. No fins, hand paddles, or other equipment permitted! Full Bodysuits for sun-protection are OK but they must not be made from neoprene.

AWARDS & DIVISIONS: Top 3 finishers in the following divisions (Male & Female): Elite, 10 & under, 11-12, 13-14 15-19, standard 5 year age groups thereafter (10-24, 25-29, etc.). Overall Series Award for participants who swim in all 5 swims.

SAFETY: Caps are mandatory! Swim caps are provided to registered swimmers at their first NSSS swim of the summer.

NOTE: Swimmers only receive one cap during the 5 the series. You may use you own swim cap; bright caps are highly encouraged; bright colors are highly encouraged. THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE: PLEASE DO YOUR PART!

TIME LIMITS: Swimmers must pass the halfway point in the Chun’s to Waimea, Laniakea to Pua’ena Point & North Shore Challenge swims by the 1hr 15 min mark. Swimmers not reaching this half way mark will be escorted to shore!

PARKING: Parking is available on Kahalewai Place and on the Haleiwa side of the beach park near the Haleiwa War Memorial east of  Haleiwa Beach House Restaurant the Haleiwa Bridge.

DIRECTIONS: Getting to Haleiwa is easy from anywhere on Oahu:

-Take H1 Freeway, Westbound -Stay on the HI Freeway for approximately six miles
-Look for signs for the H2 Freeway, Northbound (North Shore/Wahiawa) Merge right onto the H2 Freeway
-Continue on the H2 Freeway North to Wahiawa. Exit at Wahiawa (Exit 8) on to 80 (Kamehameha Hwy) through Wahiawa-Continue Northbound, 80 connects with 99
-Stay on 99 to Haleiwa
-The road now bypasses Haleiwa town-turn left into the 2nd stop light for Haleiwa town and take the first right hand turn onto “Kahalewai Place”.

Check in is at the end of this road near the beach.
